If you're a producer or a co-producing venue looking to support or invest in an original British musical, telling a brand new story that could change lives, we want to hear from you! We've already felt the impact of this show from our Cambridge development run; now we want to take it further.
WHY THIS STORY?
While Unfolding is a humorous and ultimately uplifting show, it carries an important message as one of its key themes. As long as boys and men are brought up within a damaging and oppressive patriarchal mould, there is a potential of their becoming either silent victims or aggressors, turning unspoken hurts or perceived failings inwards, or manifesting them into cruelty against others.
When suicide of men is four times that of women in the UK, and with so many women in turn living in fear of men, it’s clear we have a cycle to break. That begins with talking.
Emma has worked extensively with the ManKind Initiative to make sure the issues of men’s mental health, and domestic violence against men, has been handled accurately and sensitively every step of the way in this show.
With kind thanks to Mark Brooks of the
Mankind Initiative for his insight and support.
